Visa

All visitors to Bhutan must obtain a Bhutan visa, with the exception of the travelers from India, Maldives, and Bangladesh. Bhutanese visas will be processed through Bhutan Greenland Expeditions.

Bhutan tourist visas are issued after booking a trip through a local or international agent. No foreign embassies or organisations issue Bhutanese tourist visas. A copy of a valid passport and a visa form must be submitted to Bhutan Greenland Expeditions a month prior to the trip to Bhutan.

A visa approval letter, issued by the Bhutanese government, will be sent to all travelers via email or fax. Travelers must present the visa approval letter when boarding Druk Air. The visa approval letter will be stamped by customs upon arrival into Bhutan.

For travelers entering Bhutan by land, two passport size photographs must be submitted to customs at the border.

A visa fee of US $ 25 is required of all tourists and the visa will be processed by Bhutan Greenland Expeditions.

Daily Tariff

The Bhutanese government requires all tourists to pay a daily tariff.

The minimum daily tariff for tourists in a group of three or more is listed below:

High season tariff – US $ 200 per person, per night (The high season includes: February, March, April, May, August, September, October, November and December.)

Low season tariff – US $165 per person per night (The low season includes January, June and July )

The Daily Tariff Includes:

-Royalty and other government taxes
-Guide services
-All meals
-Accommodation in twin sharing basis
-Transport within Bhutan
-Museum and monument fees
-Pony rides (upon request) and pack animals on treks

FIT Surcharges:

Individual tourists and groups of two people are subject to an additional surcharge:

Single Individual         -   US $ 40 per night
Group of two persons-   US $ 30 per person per night
These FIT surcharges are non commissionable.

Tourists are required to pay a tourism development fee of US $10 , in addition to the US $ 25 USD visa fee. Both are one-time fees.


Please be aware that travelers insurance is not included in these costs. Bhutan Greenland Expeditions recommends that travelers purchase an insurance policy to protect themselves against any unforeseen accidents. Insurance policies are not offered in Bhutan.

Single Room Supplement.:

Accommodation is provided on twin sharing basis. A single room can be purchased at an additional rate of  US $ 25 per person per night.

Cancellation Policies:

In the event of a cancellation, tourists may incur a cancellation fee. The cancellation policy is listed below:

-Within 30 days of the start of the Bhutan tour              - no charges
-Within 21 days                                                                    -10 % of the rate
-Within 14 days                                                                    -15 % of the rate
-Within 7 days                                                                      -30 % of the rate
-Less than 7 days or cancellations without notice       -50% of the rate
-After arrival in Bhutan                                                        -100 %

Delayed Arrival/ Departure:

There are no charges for delayed arrivals or departures due to weather conditions, Druk Air problems, or road blocks. Tourists are required to cover the cost of accommodation, transportation, food and other services.
